Women’s Hope Foundation (WHF)
Who we are
Women’s Hope Foundation (WHF) is a women's and girls serving non-profit, non-governmental organization, which started in Ghana in 2005. It has officially registered under the companies code 1963 act 179 and issued with a certificate of registration numbers G.16, 802, CG005202018 and TIN number: C0010236007 of incorporation, and Department of Social Welfare certificate of Recognition as Non – Governmental Organization registration number D.S.W / 2723.
The organization encourages women and youth to participate in
rights and empowerment, health, economic, population and development programmes
concerning them.
WHF believes that, as women and girls are beset with numerous challenges and problems, there is the need to develop innovative approaches and programmes, which encourage women and girls participation to save their lives, sustain their dignity and development.
Women’s Hope Foundation (WHF) exists to create an equitable and just environment for her target groups by embarking on programmes and projects that lead to an improvement in quality healthcare, promote adequate access to information and fundamental human rights, equal participation in decision-making processes in all spheres of social life at all levels and economic independence in Ghana.
The organization empower women and girls to demand their Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR).
WHF address stigma, societal norms and negative attitude towards marginalized people including LGBT, sex workers and people who use drugs in rural and grassroots communities in Ghana. The organization also empower marginalized people to exercise their right to access HIV services.
We are non-partisan and work to the highest standards of transparency in our management systems and reporting. We uphold the highest standards for our work, with strong technical expertise, robust financial and programme management, and quality administration systems.
Goal
WHF’s goal is to contribute to the creation of a generation of people who have a positive view about human rights and are empowered to make safe and responsible choices.

To promote human rights, economic and social development of women and girls especially vulnerable and disadvantaged in rural and grassroots areas in Ghana.
To strengthen women and girls voice and capacity to advocate against violence, gender inequality, negative social norms, SRHR, and discrimination against them in Ghana.
To help promote the healthy growth and development of marginalized people including poor and rural women, street girls, persons with disability and transgender people through advocacy, education, and prevention information on HIV/AIDS, Malaria, tuberculosis, healthcare safety, drugs use and other risky behavior in the rural and grassroots areas in Ghana.
To increase women and girls economic opportunities through skills training, apprenticeship, and job creation activities in urban and rural areas in Ghana.
To promote women and girls Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR)
including safe abortion, HIV/AIDS, maternal and child health, family planning
and menstrual hygiene
Brief
history
The organization was founded by women’s human rights advocates who saw the need to help women and girls to take their own destiny into their hands and create positives opportunities for them to build their capacities and empower them economically. Women’s Hope Foundation started 2002 as an Association of young women seeking the welfare of other women and has over the years grown to become an organization.
WHF Main Beneficiaries
WHF focuses on women and young people especially disadvantaged and poor women, street girls, women with disability, single parents, sex workers, and transgender people.Executive Board
In order to carry out its task effectively, WHF is governed by a 5 member Executive Board of Directors (BoD) headed by the Chairperson who must be a female. The Board is the highest decision making body of WHF. The Executive Board makes recommendations and see to the implementation of the organization's policies and decisions. The board plays advisory, fundraising, and technical roles and it provides organizational effectiveness and supports in building an active group of financial supporters who regularly donate money to the organization to fulfill its mission and achieve its objectives.
Management Team
In order to carry out its task effectively, WHF has set up a four (4) Management Team, which oversees the organization's programmes and activities. The team is made up of the Executive Director, Programmes Manager, Administration/Finance Manager and two Officers. The Management team is responsible for implementing the policies; Constitution and Strategic Plan approved by the Board of Directors.

WHF has a local advisory committee board of distinguished carriers with great interest in women issues and is consulted for advice and other assistance.WHF Office
WHF has a secretariat, which sees day to day running of the organisation, and the implementation of Board policy decisions and guidelines. As an organization, our office is strategically positioned and located in the center of the Kwabre East Municipal Assembly capital (Mamponteng) in order to enhance our response of the development needs of the women and children in the Ashanti region of Ghana.
Volunteers
WHF
has over 30 volunteer who mobilizes necessary human resources at the grassroots
for project activities. The volunteer
system gives an opportunity for growing women and community/opinion leaders to
be involved in project activities at their local levels. The volunteers include
peer educators and Local Advisory Committees.
Achievements
Women’s Hope Foundation
programs and activities have impacted positively in the life of over 180, 000 women
and girls in the areas we operate. Women’s Hope Foundation is well established
has experience of galvanizing change which addresses pressing development and
social challenges confronting women and young people in our communities.
As a result of the organization interventions, more women and young people in urban, rural and grassroots areas in Ghana have:
- Increased their knowledge, skills, confidence, and ability to demand for their health and economic rights and hold the duty bearers to account.
- Had known their HIV status and now practicing safer sex and access HIV services.
- Increased women's voice and participation in the decision-making position at the local level
- Increased health care, livelihoods, and dignity
Collaboration
Our collaboration, partnership and networking with relevant departments and organizations such as Social Welfare, Gender Centre, DOVVSU, CHRAJ, traditional and religious leaders; other NGOs, CBOs, volunteers, media, and community members using the most appropriate engagement strategies have yielded positive results all these years.
